sorry for the lack of updates lately. my laptop won't connect to the internet right now. that's kind of disappointing for me, but the good news about it is i make progress on other things. specifically, April's vest for her Matt cosplay, wings for my Nill cosplay, and the lilac lolita dress i have been wanting to make for a long time. my last 2 final exams are tomorrow and i'm very happy to get them over with. =) i'm actually kind of amazed by the progress i have made in only a few days. i had all this pent-up creativity. XD i also got some new things for my Mello cosplay. i have cons coming up in January and March (both small cons at colleges) and then ACen in May. i'm excited since they are each about 2 months apart, which for me is actually perfect since that's when i start wanting to go to another one.

i'll talk to you soon. <3

i put away my laundry (well, most of it...) and i registered for 2 classes and scheduled an appointment with my academic adviser. also, my essays are done for this week. the deadline for the art and literary magazine is tomorrow, and i don't really have anything. i'm not sure if i want to try and pull something together. i have plenty of old stuff i could submit.

i'm going to alter some jeans i already own into skinny jeans, and paint my high-tops and make 'em pretty. =3 there was a $9 jeans sale, but nothing fit me, and shoes are so expensive, so i'll just use what i have! i have some great purple/white/yellow unicorn shoe laces that i have been saving. i think it's time that i can use them. i'm not sure what else i want to put on my "new" shoes yet, though. i'm also not sure exactly when this is going to happen. XD it's wet out lately, so i don't think it's practical to get started on them ASAP. it's so funny that i'm hooked on skinny jeans now. when they first came back around, i thought they'd NEVER last. now everyone is wearing them, even if they do make your butt look big. XD

so, by priority: jeans, lilac dress, shoes. there is always so much i want to do. D= winter break will be nice when it comes around in a month! so here's my new list:

- finish sailor cutsew and white lolita skirt, because they're SO CLOSE to being done (have supplies)
- alter jeans into skinny jeans (have supplies)
- lighten hair (finally! and i have supplies)
- make T-shirts and skirts for myself (have supplies, might need some paints)
- alter T-shirts, most to sell, and see what else i can finish while i'm at it (have supplies)
- lilac dress (have supplies)
- alter shoes (have supplies, might need some more markers)
- decorate some giant plastic restaurant cups, to be used for storage of art supplies (have supplies)
- finish the coffee purse i started at the beginning of the summer (have supplies)
- April's Matt vest (have most supplies)
- Luki/Noki costume commissions (need supplies)
- Nill cosplay (need supplies)

last week i was sick and out of school. i turned 19 on Friday night.

i ordered myself another Cinnamoroll bag, from the same series as the lunchbox i am currently using as a purse. this one is a messenger bag and should hopefully be big enough for my laptop. i also ordered some decoden stuff. <3 i was hoping to get it for a long time, even though it's not really practical. sometimes i need some little indulgences like this. they simply make me happy. it was a nice birthday gift to myself and a celebration for receiving my financial aid money.

my grandmother took me to an antique store, where she found a lace blouse. the lace is synthetic, so it isn't very old. but it fits perfectly. we also went to the fabric store so i could get my lilac polka dot fabric that i have wanted a long time, for a simple lolita dress. i also got the lace for my Nill cosplay, although i don't have the other things for it yet. lace is too expensive. =P

early Saturday morning, my nail polish started to chip. i left my belt buckle because the polymer clay portion began to separate from the metal base. i also couldn't do the scar.

my mother called on the way, and i called her back just as we arrived. i got my grant money for college for the year. holy crap! it's like, all of my tuition! i jumped up and down squealing before we headed in. imagine Mello, screaming like a little girl and jumping up and down in the parking lot in unadulterated joy. that would be me.

we were shocked at first by how small this con seemed. after some walking around and just barely starting to get bored, we decided to sign up for the walk-on cosplay contest. we got to talk about why we picked our characters and how we made the costumes. we were also scored on construction quality and complexity. it was mostly on faith, though, because if they'd come to look at my stitching, they'd see that it sucked, although they seemed a bit baffled that i had quilted the vest myself. everyone else in the con said it looked really amazing, though, or that i was one of the best Mello cosplayers they'd seen. (smiley) (i'm certain that they meant in person. there are really amazing Mellos around the world. there's only ever a handful of Mellos at all at ACen, and they've all been pretty good as far as i'm concerned.)

we had a good time, did a bit of shopping until the evening when we had to go back for our instructions. we figured out poses and quickly did our thing. Zach messed up the names (now that i think about it, the microphone probably cut out again) but the audience was screaming before he could even say "Death Note." i went too quickly... when we finished, we danced a bit to the techno-y runway music while we waited and watched. there were some really amazing costumes. for awards, they did a bunch of Best in Show things, like Most Complex and Least Comfortable to Wear. these were fantastic costumes. someone even made a Eureka 7 robot with fused vinyl so it was inflatable. amazing! and finally, Best in the Anime/Manga category. "AM 29, Death Note." what? what the hell? really? we went up, stunned. later we had to ask why we got that award. Zach told us, we had the best in our category outside of the Best In Show awards. basically, we were absolutely correct to be marveling at the other costumes, because they were technically better, but they were so much better that they were all their own rank, and we were outside of that rank. we just scored the best, beneath them. i can live with that. gosh, i'm so happy.

we don't have our own pictures, but i got one little one of just the faces of us and the only other Matt, and i'll make a new post when/if there are some posted by other congoers. my face is covered by my gun in at least one of them.

i had this wig picked out for my post-explosion Mello cosplay (after a custom dye job and style), but since seeing LAIRproductions' lovely wigs i'm having second thoughts. they cut their wigs to length, and they were great wigs to begin with, with a slight curl. and i'm not really the greatest at cutting wigs, in my opinion, although i'm proud of the quick job i did on Lizzy's Matt, though it was just the bangs. i know what i'm doing well enough, it's just the experience that i lack. then again, my particular skill level could be what makes a wig uniquely mine. there's a little qualm i have with buying wigs already cut, for example from someplace like ebay. but my friends do it! why should i care?!

anyway, i went through looking at some other wigs. i think that this one should be pretty good with a cut and style (but it's got a bouffant thing going on, the same thing that annoys me to death about my Renge wig). this one could fit the bill with a cut and style, though i'm not positive about the bangs. i also found this little beauty on ebay, which i've never actually used before. it's a bit hard to tell if it's right for me since it's on a wig head that i'm unfamiliar with. compared to the length of Lizzy's Matt i think it's right. i think it would be really cute though, but i'm not trying for cute exactly, i'm trying for Mello. but i'm leaning toward it.

can i have your opinions, please? <3

PS- i got my dream boots (sans proper color)! they're quite comfortable to walk in despite the enormous platform, that looks much taller since my feet are small. they're not quite what i was expecting, though. i'm scared to sand them down for paint. =(
